The city of Fort Lauderdale is dedicated to preserving the local sea turtle population. Through prime sea turtle season, June – September, visitors will notice a number of orange identifiers in the sand meant to protect turtle eggs in their incubation stage. Join the Sea Turtle Rescue team for a seasonal “Ultimate Nighttime Beach Adventure.” Starting at 7:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., the adventure begins with a quick sit down including details on the threats facing sea turtle preservation. Then, embark on a guided walk offering the rare opportunity to possibly see sea newborn sea turtles emerging from their nests and work to direct them safely to the ocean’s edge, sending them off on their ongoing aquatic journey. One of three hatchlings are lured toward the city lights instead of the water. The best part about the Turtle Trek? 100% of proceeds benefit ongoing rescue operations.
Tours start at the Sea Turtle Oversight Protection located at A1A and 9th st., just south of Sunrise Blvd. going north.
